Why:

  • We believe we need to change our food system to save the world.

  • We know the tomato from mom’s garden tastes better than the tomato at the supermarket.

  • Industrial food production is not sustainable and it is time to go back to community.

We must eat sustainably, live with the Earth, and embrace the seasons. The wisdom of the countryside, simplicity and sustainability, must spread to all corners of the earth and to each individual. It is all about responsibility, community, and hospitality.

We're sincere, if maybe idealistic. But we've put our efforts into what we believe and invite you to believe it as well.

How:

The Local Root restaurant was built with existing infrastructure and equipment. We added reclaimed wood and metal.

We travel to our partner's farms, distilleries, and vineyards. We keep them local so we can manage quality, learn from our partners, and play in their dirt.

Local means fresher food and fresher food tastes better. We turn these delicious fresh ingredients into the food and drinks you love.

We are a zero-waste restaurant.  Our sustainability initiatives include gardening, genuine recycling, waste tracking, and composting. It is all about responsibility, community, and hospitality.

What:

Local Root is planted in the heart of the Streeterville community between Navy Pier and Michigan Ave in a comfortable and cozy space.

Our weekend brunch is quite the rave with familiar ingredients prepared in a savory manner.

For lunch enjoy the full breadth of our chef inspired sandwiches, salads, and soups and the best fries in town. (Or fruit and veggies).

For your dinner add our American-focused wine bar, Small plates, Entrees,  and craft spirits

Local Root brings passion and knowledge about real food at an affordable price to the heart of downtown Chicago.

Quality, simplicity and a combination of almost familiar flavors, is what has shaped our menu. Let our menu place you in the countrysides of America and Europe circa 2020.

Passionate sourcing, The backbone of our food is sourcing. We know where all of our food originated, and how it is transported to us. Our food comes from farms you can visit and farmers who we know by name
